Microchipping

We firmly believe in microchipping all pets at Pine Creek Veterinary Associates. Microchips are safe and simple forms of identification that can’t get stolen, lost or damaged. These devices will greatly increase the chances that a lost pet will get home safely.

A microchip is similar in size to a grain of rice. It is placed under your pet’s skin between their shoulder blades, and implantation only takes a few minutes. Each microchip is unique and contains valuable information about your pet, including:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Contact information

Once the microchip is implanted, a registration form must be filled out. Registering the number on the microchip will add the pet to a national recovery database, where other veterinary hospitals, as well as animal shelters and animal control offices, are equipped with scanners that can detect the microchip to read the pet’s identification number. From there, a call to the pet recovery database will alert the microchip company that a lost pet has been identified, then the pet owner will be contacted and reunited with their best friend.

Pets of all ages can receive microchips, including puppies and kittens. Even if your pet stays strictly indoors, it’s highly recommended to still get them microchipped.
