Cookie & Oreo’s Spay and Neuter Procedures

Meet Cookie and Oreo, six-month-old sibling miniature poodles who recently visited Pine Creek Veterinary Associates for their traditional spay and neuter procedures. These two sweet littermates handled their surgeries beautifully, and we’re happy to share that both recovered well with careful monitoring and lots of support from our team.

Spay and neuter procedures are among the most common surgeries performed in veterinary medicine, but they are also some of the most important. Beyond preventing unwanted litters, spaying and neutering can offer meaningful long-term health and behavioral benefits for pets.

For female dogs like Cookie, spaying helps prevent unwanted pregnancies and eliminates the risk of uterine infections, also known as pyometra. When performed at the appropriate time, it can also reduce the risk of certain mammary tumors. For male dogs like Oreo, neutering eliminates the risk of testicular cancer and can reduce the likelihood of some prostate issues.

For both pets, spaying and neutering can also help reduce certain hormone-driven behaviors, depending on the individual pet, their age, and their medical history.

At Pine Creek Vet, every surgical patient receives individualized care before, during, and after their procedure. For Cookie and Oreo, that meant pre-surgical evaluation, careful anesthesia monitoring, a safe surgical environment, pain management, and attentive recovery support.

We know surgery can feel stressful for pet owners, even when the procedure is routine. Our team takes that responsibility seriously and works to make the experience as safe, comfortable, and smooth as possible for every patient.

Cookie and Oreo are both doing great after their procedures, and we’re so proud of these adorable siblings for being such brave patients.

If you have questions about spaying or neutering your pet, including the best timing and what to expect during recovery, our team is happy to talk through the options with you.
